Last Friday the kindergarteners reviewed their primary and secondary colors by completing a color wheel after cutting and assembling all the parts of their secondary pumpkins. At the end of class, I read students "The Day The Crayons Quit" by Drew Daywalt to give students another perspective on color. Many of them already know and love this book.
Their final pumpkins are beautiful! I love the texture.

On Friday, I talked to the kindergarteners about those three very important and special colors, red, yellow and blue. With the help of one of my favorite OK Go! videos (link is below) students were introduced to the concept of these three primary colors coming together to mix all the other colors. Since students are also learning about pumpkins, we used red yellow and blue to make the secondary colors: green, purple and orange. I showed students a new way to draw pumpkins to appreciate the many sizes and shapes they come in (not just a circle). They did an awesome job following directions and painting the pumpkins which will later be cut out and glued to the purple background.
