Inspired by the changing seasons, last Friday I read the book "I am an Artist" by Pat Lowery Collins to the kindergarteners. This book talks about how every time we look closely at nature, and make things out of our collections or use our imaginations to see creativity everywhere we look, we are artists. The kindergarteners were ready to become artists too, and they were asked to use a collection of leaves and other fall items to create a portrait.
I love these faces!

Kindergarteners listened to the book “Beautiful Oops” by Barney Saltzberg. This interactive book shows readers that even when you think you’ve made a mistake, you can turn it into something beautiful. An accidental mark, a rip, a spill or a stain can take on a new form when you use your imagination. For their Beautiful Oops projects I asked students to really think creatively and use their imaginations. They began their project by selecting a scrap of paper that they were inspired by. They then used crayons to complete the idea and turn it into something new!
