This past week, the first graders finished up their mosaics from last week. They had the option to create pumpkins using paper, pastels and tissue paper when they were done, that included lines, shapes, patterns and/or texture. They look great!

This past week, I talked to the second graders about symmetry as well as positive and negative space. I showed them some of the samples below that illustrate positive space- the object or subject you're looking at, and negative space- the space surrounding the object. These examples show how sometimes (intentionally or not) the negative space can make up shapes that are just as interesting as the positive space. Our objective for the day was to use construction paper to create a symmetrical object that plays with positive and negative space. They did a great job creating their own designs, this was not an easy task!
